Why does the screen saver/energy saver come on when I have it disabled in the settings? My receiver is an HR44-500.

Thanks again!  I don't recall having to hold down the input button but that makes sense, to prevent accidental selection.

Adding an external drive will replace the internal drive and you can't transfer anything to the external drive from the internal drive.

Run the Built in Self-test (BIST) to try and repair your hard drive. To run the hard drive checks, please follow these steps:

* Reboot DVR via red button inside card door.

* When you see "Running receiver self-check" press select

* You will see "Entering Diagnostics Mode..."

* Select Advanced Tests Menu -> Hard Drive utilities -> Short Smart test

You can also run the file test, and the DVR can sometimes repair a bad file report.

* If the other tests pass, run the surface test.   Warning: This process could take several hours to complete. You may want to run it overnight.

The good news is that every attempt is made to save programming. This is less destructive than a reformat all and could provide you with a more stable system if you are having problems that appear to be related to the hard drive.

OOH not working with Centurylink PK5001Z, ports don't forward

Like many in this forum, I can stream just fine in my house from my GenieGo but not from outside the house.

Using instructions provided by Directv, I have manually done what I'm supposed to do.

I have a Century Link PK5001z wireless router (Firmware up to dates)

Ports have been manually setup to forward (8082, 8082 both on TCP) - I even deleted, rebooted and re-added these thinking maybe something was corrupt in Port Forwarding

GenieGo has a Static IP reserved (192.168.1.146), Mac Address matches what is in my router

GenieApp is 2.3.0.20

I have no FIREWALLS turned on. I do run OPENDNS which shoudn't be a problem

Everything else is standard in my router settings except some statis DNS entries for OPENDNS

Using 3rd party PFPortChecker, it tells me 8082 and 8083 are not forwarding

GenieGo Port 1 is 8082, GenieGo Port 2 is 8083

Test button from GenieGo app says I"m not setup

I would love to get this going.

Directv told me to call Centurylink, which I did.

Centurylink told me to talk to Directv which I have.

Network Assistment from App says all 6 tests passed (all green)

What else can I do to trouble shoot this???

What questions can I answer?

Thanks,
Mark

Genie won't connect to WiFi

At this point I'm stumped as to why my whole home DVR refuses to connect to my wireless network.  I recently upgraded all of my networking equipment and as part of the process I've created three SSID's on different VLANs.  The problem is nothing I do let's the Genie connect to the geo_av wireless network.

I have a randomly generated 30 character passphrase that I've confirmed works both through my iPad and through our smart TV.  I've literally compared character by character to the passphrase printed out and on the screen.  Since I'm using prosumer equipment there is no WPS, so that isn't an option.  I've already shortened the passphrase, thinking I was making a typo, but that didn't help.  I haven't tried connecting to the other wireless networks, but in the long run I don't want the DVR on either the main or guest wireless.  The geo_av wireless is configured to use WPA2-PSK.

I'm open to any ideas on why the Geneie won't connect to my network.

There are some special characters that are not allowed as part of the passphrase, I don't have those with me now, so I would start by only making a passphrase of only letters and numbers

No, restoring the Genie to factory defaults (out of box state) will delete ALL of your recordings.  However, installing an external drive will bypass the internal so any issues with the internal drive should not show while using the external drive.

Ya, one Genie per account.  It should be noted that there is an inherent delay from the Genie to the minis.

You can get one Genie, three minis and either 2 HD receivers one HDDVRs.

Genie recordings randomly black out.

My recordings randomly black out for a second or 2 throughout the programs.  So far, this has only happened on my recordings, not live TV, and it seems to only happen when I am watching a recording that is currently recording.  I like to let the program get a little ahead, and then I can fast forward through the commercials and end catching up to where the recording is in the process.  This does not appear to be the same black out issues I have seen in the discussions, most of which are quite old anyways.

First thing to try is resetting your DVR/Receiver using the red button behind the front panel access card door. See if that helps. ( on side panel on H25 receivers

Are there any limits on characters for the SSID?  The DVR does see the SSID, but since there is a limit in the passphrase now I'm wondering about other limits.

It could be.  Also there are some characters not allowed as part of the SSID as well.

Correct, the GenieGo needs a DHCP address reservation.

This is a new Vizio LED TV- No sound using HDMI from Mini Genie

I've seen this question before but no answer that applies to me.

I had been using an "S" cable with my old SD set and the sound worked fine.

Enter the new Vizio and an HDMI cable and great video but no sound.

I went on You tube (smart tv) and the Vizio has good sound.

Tried both the Dolby "on" and "off" setting to no avail.

What next???

Bad mini???

Tom

Receiving 775 and then switches to 771 problems.  Checked all connections inside house and outside.  Everything ok.  Satellite dish has no obstructions.  TV seems fine in the evening.  Weather is perfect.

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable).  You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".  Note the "+" and "-" symbols next to the "Satellite" and "Tuner" entries where you can toggle the readings between the various satellites and both DVR tuners.

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples.  A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

If not, make sure that Dolby Digital is UNchecked on the DirecTV box.

I reserved the IP address in the router but it didn't make any difference.
