Recent automatic updates to DirecTV receivers have made iPad 1 Directv applications useless: the app demands an update that cannot be obtained, since iPad 1 cannot install IOS 6.
If, like many people, I suspect, you have repurposed an older iPad 1 for DirecTV remote control and some streaming, DirecTV software developer laziness will cost you about $400 to fix (that is, get a new iPad). I'm a software developer, and the ONLY reason for the version check is to allow some new functionality, or to permit some streaming options in IOS 6 and newer. The basic function of the iPad app V2.0x would would just fine if they would be allowed. Maybe DirecTV is in cahoots with Apple to sell more iPads? (JK).
Your receiver was upgraded while you slept one night, and bricked you iPad 1.
But maybe I'm not missing much: the DirecTV app v 2.6 only get 2.3 stars in the App Store with the litany of complaints you see in these forums: freezing, streaming broken, etc.
PS: Yes, this is a rant. There is no fix available from anywhere, and DirecTV is too busy merging with ATT to actually care about customers right now.
