The DVR will tune one of its two tuners to whatever show/channel is currently recording. Then it's a simple matter of selecting that show from the Playlist to view it.

Whatever component needs to be tested or replaced is done internally by DIRECTV®. There is no mention of the meaning of the -XXX on any of the DIRECTV® techs websites.
