BSF is Band Stop Filter. it blocks the DECA frequencies so that it does not damage the satellite tuners. it is built in on all DECAs

I don't think it's just the Genie. I have an HD DVR that's about 3 years old. Just this season, it started having no audio on my Vampire Diaries recordings. I can watch the show live and it has audio....
