I hate to admit how I fixed this on my Genie 0x987 software because of the cost.
I left the 1080p and 480i display settings disabled. I use dolby.
I went out and spent a small fortune on a Netgear X6 AC3200 Nighthawk router. Consumer but I could not find an enterprise solution with AC that was affordable for home use.
My cable internet connection is 115mb with burst to 180mb.
I bought a shielded network cable. Went directly to the genie from port 4.
I turned off QoS on the router and set a dedicated VLAN on port 4 that is direct to the Genie.
I set a separate VLAN for each wireless network, 2 5MHZ and 1 2.5MHZ. A separate VLAN for dedicated VPN host on Port 3 to the office and another VLAN port 1 and 2 for everything else. Port2 to the switch and Port 1 for the NAS
No drops and a 2 hour movie downloads in 30 min or less.
I can also stream without having to pause and wait for the movie to catch up.
All this and I can still move copy play Large format image file or video files while the download or stream is in play.
I still blame the problem on the network adapter in the Genie as without the dedicated VLAN I still had the drops. Monitoring the port the number dropped packet did reduce dramatically after I added the VLAN. Not to zero like all the other ports.
For fun I will note that the wireless android connectivity is consistently 866mb or higher. On a different floor or in the back yard it may get as low as 356mb. But testing with various speed test apps to the internet wired PC's Mac and android phones test out at the max 115mb or higher every time. iPhones and iPads still don't match up to the speeds on the other devices. I never had an issue streaming via Apple TV or the PS4 when networked for gaming. I tested the high end Linksys with default software and tomato and did not have near this level of success and could not eliminate the audio drops. On the Linksys I did not test a dedicated VLAN with QoS disabled. Disabling QoS seems to make a difference as all but one desktop laptop or server is PC. Microsoft QoS seems to clutter up the network even with a tuned firewall policy applied to each machine. I have since disabled QoS on all my adapters as well. With QoS disabled and the tuned host firewall policy the network IPS is never over 2% utilization.
You should not have to do all that to watch TV. However I am stable for more than 3 weeks now. I never asked for or expected a credit. I just wanted DTV quality to extend to all of DTV since I am paying a hefty bill.
