DTV has to ground the dish usually this is done at the power panel and DTV probably won't mount the dish to a power/telephone pole but should provide a pole mount if there is no other way to get LOS.

Yes the TV can use the internet to receive streamed programs from Netflix and others but to receive DTV programing with On Demand you need an HD receiver.

He was wrong. The RC71/72 remotes are designed for the HR44 Genie DVRs. They actually have fewer built-in codes than the RC65/66 remotes. And the RC71/72 remote won't work in RF mode with your HR34.

You can get HD programs from an Over The Air antenna depending on where you live an indoor one maybe all you need to connect to the TV.

Not sure what is the point here? You want to go to cable, by all means. With DIRECTV® you need an HD dish along with an HD receiver or HDDVR.
