Help...error code 14-177

After five days of service issues (our programs are freezing, both recorded and live) now tonight we have the following message on your screen "A problem has been detected in the storage device, This may be a simple initialization error or a critical fault. Please reboot the box now. That may fix the problem. If that does not work, please call Customer Service at 1-800-531-5000 and report the diagnostic code displayed below. Diagnostics Code 14-177."

We have called and naturally the system is down for maintenance and we are unable to speak to a representative. We have had Direct TV for over a year and oddly enough, just after 1 year of service we are starting to have all sorts of issues with our service. We have called and spoke with someone 3 times already today and now, when we need them, they can not assist us. We have rebooted our box, the tv working for less than 2 minutes and we are right back to the same error code. Has anyone else had this issue?

Run the Built in Self-test (BIST) to try and repair your hard drive. To run the hard drive checks, please follow these steps:

* Reboot DVR via red button inside card door.

* When you see "Running receiver self-check" press select

* You will see "Entering Diagnostics Mode..."

* Select Advanced Tests Menu -> Hard Drive utilities -> Short Smart test

You can also run the file test, and the DVR can sometimes repair a bad file report.

* If the other tests pass, run the surface test.   Warning: This process could take several hours to complete. You may want to run it overnight.

The good news is that every attempt is made to save programming. This is less destructive than a reformat all and could provide you with a more stable system if you are having problems that appear to be related to the hard drive.

What model of receiver(s) do you have behind the access card door?

Does your TV have a Zoom feature look on its remote, if it does then try pressing it.

Frequent 771 error

I'm a long time subscriber, and overall my service has been reliable, but for the last few months I've experienced increased outages due to weather, not just bad storms but mild rainfall and even just overcast skies. These interruptions can be over an hour at times in severe weather, but can be an intermittent problem in weather that never affected my service in the past. Could there be a problem  with my dish?

Hmm, Ok then maybe I'll disconnect the phone line since the receiver is on the network anyway. I wasn't aware that a phone line was no longer needed. Thanks.

This still doesn't explain why it was producing fax tones though....

Re: OTA Channel List Different for HR44 and HR34

You can maybe get some or all of your channels, it just takes a little ingenuity. This is how: I live in the Minneapolis St Paul market. My antenna is pointed at the Twin Cites and my strongest signal comes from there. But my antenna picks up signals from the translator (repeater) stations out of St James MN. By studying the database and the RF channel for certain stations I figured out it was possible to match a channel to an RF channel number and receive the channel. For instance: In the Twin Cities channel 5.6 RF45 THIS is not in D* database. And it cannot be matched to anything in the database because of the high .6 sub channel number. St James translator station carries 5.6 on RF44. By looking at the database, Cincinnati carries  a channel on 52.6 RF44. Since the .6 RF44 sub channels match up, by running Cincinnati as a secondary zip I get 5.6 in my AM21, albeit with the guide for the Cincinnati channel. So it is possible to match to repeater stations by matching RF channels from other zip codes. I do a couple other ones also.

I think there is something wrong in the HR24 modem circuit that is keeping it open and the ring pulse is triggering a response only a guess.

Can't watch mini genie in 2 bedrooms at same time

I need help. I recently had a main genie installed in the living room, a mini in the master bedroom, 2nd bedroom and my patio. The 2nd bedroom couldn't watch tv after a couple days so I reset it and it worked fine. That was until I went into my room (the master) and it won't work. It continues to say no network server found. So either myself or my daughter have to decide who gets to watch tv because we both can't watch it at the same time. It's summer and all she wants to do is binge watch Disney channel and I don't feel like this is fair to either of us. On top of everything my installer gave me such a guilt trip about calling Direct Tv and said he'd be charged back if I called them that I wanted him to come back and fix it but he's blown me off for a week. I have put in a call to Direct Tv and they said they have never heard of this before. They had me unplug the main genie in the living room from the serge protector and put it directly into the wall. They had me reset it and nothing has worked. I'm so frustrated this has been going on for a 2 weeks!

It is happening on both receivers. The main one in the bedroom and small one in the living room

There is a 90 day warranty on installs, if you are still within that period call them back to fix this as you should be able to run the 3 minis and the Genie at the same time.

You can also try resetting the Genie and while it is rebooting reset the minis.

That could be the case given that the caller id function has been funky as I mentioned in my original post.

Definitely an odd problem.

how to have RC65X remote turn off Pioneer audio receiver

Hi guys, in one room I have a Pioneer VSX-1020 audio receiver and a RC65RX remote control and they work perfectly together, the remote controls volume and powers the audio receiver on/off with no issue, I've been using it that way for many years with an HR24 dvr Directv unit.

Now in a second room I just got a a Pioneer VSX-1023 which is newer version of the audio receiver in my other room and this Directv unit is an H24 (non dvr) and has an RC65X remote control. In this case though while volume control works, the remote control will not power the Pioneer audio receiver on and off like in the other room. So the main differences are:

Room 1, power on/off works perfectly from remote:

- Pioneer VSX-1020 audio receiver

- HR24 Directv dvr unit

- RC65RX remote control

Room 2, power on/off does *not* work from remote:

- Pioneer VSX-1023 audio receiver

- H24 Directv non-dvr unit

- RC65X remote control

Any ideas why one works perfectly for years and the other refuses to work at all? As far as I understand the only difference between the RC65RX and RC65X remote are that one supports RF and the other doesn't, or perhaps there is more to it and the RC65X will not send power on/off codes to audio receivers whereas the RC65RX does? Or is it possible that Directv supports the older model audio receiver in Room 1 that I bought many years ago yet they don't support the more current model in Room 2?

Perhaps it has to do with HDMI-CEC

Hmm, so you think the HR24 is turning off my a/v receiver via hdmi-cec, whereas the H24 receiver can't because it doesn't support hdmi-cec? Or does the Directv receiver need to have it's hdmi cable plugged into a particular hdmi input on the a/v receiver and I just happened to get it right in one room and wrong in the other? In Room 2 I plugged the H24 into the jack labelled (sat/cable) on the VSX-1023 receiver, maybe that's the wrong place to connect it? I don't even remember where it's plugged in on the Room 1 a/v receiver as it's been such a long time. Alternatively is it possible hdmi-cec is on by default on my older VSX-1020 receiver and defaults to off on my newer VSX-1023?

I am thinking more like the TV's HDMI-CEC since the HR24 just got support for CEC not too long (2-3 months) ago and you said it has been working for a long time.  How long?

on the other hand, I don't recall if the HD receivers supports HDMI-CEC

Oh I see, maybe that's the case, I'll check into that and see, I didn't setup Room 1 originally so maybe there's some funky setup there to get the a/v receiver to power off.

I will just have to call them to fome out here. Was hoping it was something simple. Have to check if we have the protection plan. I checked everything outside all is good.

HD Reciever and on-demand

$

HI,

When I signed up for DirectTV the saleswoman told that I would be able to get on-demand TV with the HD Receiver. I didn't want the DVR and she assured me that it would work. Now I'm reading that this is not the case. What I don't get is when I had Comcast I could take advantage  of on-demand without a DVR and if I had gone with Cox I could have done the same thing. Why does DirectTV make you pay extra for the DVR? I would have gone with a different TV provider. I'm very frustrated.

Why do I have to have a DVR to get on-demand.

Thanks

jen
